BJS Releases PREA Data Collection Activities Report for 2020

The Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Statistics in mid-June released its PREA Data-Collection Activities 2020 report. This report, the tenth in a series that began in 2011, describes activities during 2019 and 2020 by BJS to collect data and report on the incidence and effects of prison rape, as required by the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003. According to the report, in 2019, more than 7,600 prisons, jails, community-based facilities, and juvenile correctional facilities nationwide were covered by PREA.
